Beginners check list for Singer/Studio/Silver Reed knitters:
1. Make the correct size tension swatch for your machine (follow instructions in your manual).
2. Wash, dry and steam the tension swatch as you will the finished item.
3. Measure the swatch carefully with your stitch/row ruler.
4. Record in writing the stitch and the row count.
5. Record in writing the type of yarn used, the tension dial setting and the tension mast number.
6. Select the correct stitch ruler from Knitcontour/radar set. Select the correct row on the row dial or if using the knit radar KR10/11, programme in the row count according to the manual.
7. Make sure your tension mast is threaded correctly and there are no obstructions near the cone so the yarn will flow through the mast easily.
8. Check your stitch dial.
9. Use a notebook to record all the information for each project.
10. Last but not least, be sure your machine is cleaned and oiled regularly and cover when not in use.


Beginners check list for Brother knitters:
1. Make the correct size tension swatch for your machine (follow instructions in your manual).
2. Wash, dry and steam the tension swatch as you will the finished item.
3. Measure the swatch carefully with the stitch ruler supplied with the Knitleader.
4. Record in writing the stitch measurement in millimeters and record the row measurement in centimetres.
5. Record in writing the type of yarn used, the tension dial setting and the tension mast number.
6. Select the correct stitch ruler. The stitch guide is on the knit leader tube. Set the regulators for the row measurement [refer to the manual to set the regulators]
7. Make sure your tension mast is threaded correctly and there are no obstructions near the cone so the yarn will flow through the mast easily.
8. Check your stitch dial.
9. Use a notebook to record all the information for each project.
10. Last but not least, be sure your machine is cleaned and oiled regularly and cover when not in use.
